1 Peter Bible Sketch

Are you ready to answer?

Are you prepared to die?

What does “by the grace of God” mean?

Questions are answered in the Word of God. His grace prepares us to keep planting trees, breathe freely and worry less. The Son of God Jesus Christ gives, in the faith, a share in His risen life; purpose to live and to love people. Through hearing His Word spoken and sung, we’re empowered by Him to trust His mercy as well as desire priorities He designed for us. Christ already defeated sin, death and the power of the devil; yet, Satan is always enticing us into ways that could cumulate to a point we would leave or reject the faith. Almighty Jesus commands Baptism; water used together with the Word of God is one of the miraculous means of grace for saving faith. Baptism gives an inheritance of living hope, total healing and final glory in Christ. We have opportunity to get a taste of the gift now in the Lord’s Supper which nourishes us with forgiveness and strength to keep moving forward in faith. Read more on frequently asked questions.

…To those who are elect exiles… May grace and peace be multiplied to you.… Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls. … 1 Peter 1

1 Peter 3:15

But in your hearts set Christ apart as Lord. Always ready to give an answer to anyone who asks you to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect. 1 Peter 3:15
But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, (1 Peter 3:15)

There’s help available.

It’s possible to reject the Truth by choosing to not pay attention to the One who pays attention to us. Turning toward God is an element of being helped and prepared in Truth for the eternal blessings. We can trust that the Son of God who gives us His Word always has us in mind; it was His idea to be born of a virgin woman for us. Jesus perfectly obeyed the Father who loves us deeply. Because of our sin, after Jesus died to take away our punishment He descended to hell to proclaim the victory and show the spirit world what He did to fulfill the promises God made for us.

We’ve been given the Word and Sacrament for living to follow the risen Jesus Christ to the poor, meek, destitute, lonely, burdened, sick, sinners; and sharing what we have been given, through caring conversations, rituals, traditions, devotions, and service.

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9

There’s one way for us to be forgiven in the eyes of God who initiated grace for us in Baptism.

Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
1 Peter 3:21

Welcome to church—we pray you’ll check it out. Feel free to mingle with people who are not of the world, but are in the Word praying to be ready to answer everyone who asks about the faith that comes by hearing. Leaning on Jesus, we enjoy merciful freedoms to confidently live in the world now and forever in the new creation. As God’s family of believers, we don’t want to meddle or go where we’re not meant to be involved; yet, knowing the end is near, we’re led by the Spirit to

  • pray to take heart that Jesus has overcome the world
  • thank the Counselor who keeps our focus on eternal life with God
  • pray to be asked about the object of our faith
  • pray to grow up into a grace-filled reverent way of living
  • pray to be equipped by the strength the Lord gives us in His Word—to resist the devil so he would flee and we may be rid of malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, slander—to be thankful for God’s merciful forgiveness
  • pray that we may tenderly show mercy and witness through our words and actions
  • pray the steady joy we have in Christ may gently encourage others
  • pray to compassionately spread God’s commands, highlighting peace rewarded in living them as well as grace in failing
  • pray for opportunities to do good and glorify God by sharing gifts given for us

Questions about our reason for the hope we have, in faith, while grieving various trials of long-suffering hard times, illness, chronic disorders, injustice, estrangement, abuse—we answer according to the Gospel. Praying for our enemies, strengthened to not retaliate, by faith we endure, grow in character, and forgive as Christ has forgiven us. Forgiving doesn’t make the wrong okay or make a way for evil to continue. Everything in life is directed according to God’s gracious purpose.

Sinners who are redeemed members of the Church depend on God’s helpful compassionate connections. In our trustworthy community of believers, He multiplies the benefits of wisdom, grace, experience and Biblical education. He unites us in the true faith. We share His affectionate concern for all people. Jesus bled for us, washes us to have a good conscience and protects us. We’re thankful for His process of love that adopts us into His family.

Spiritual life isn’t logical since it’s not by our own ability, will, choice, reason or strength that we repent. There’s more to it. It’s God’s power that ransomed flawed people which guards and renews the gift that’s available until the temporary hostility of the world’s struggles will be destroyed when Christ returns.

  1. With Jesus, as we continue in the faith, the best is yet to come by grace when we’re brought into a fantastic everlasting future. The Holy Spirit through the Word of God points us to think eternally as we await our perfect peace kept in heaven for us.
  2. Without Jesus, everything in life is futile because death apart from God offers no hope for everyone who rejects Him. People who choose to replace God by living apart from the faith will experience the dire consequence of suffering eternally.

How hospitable are you? How would you rate your attitude? Discover more about hospitality.

Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 4:9-11

As Christians, we don’t see ourselves as potentially becoming what we’d consider to be perfect on our own. Without Christ’s work, everyone would be doomed. God delights in us. He likely frowns or laughs at what we might consider perfection. We shouldn’t expect anyone to make things just right, to fit the flawed ways we want. Always, we can entrust ourselves to the faithful Creator who forgives and perfects our faith by His sacrificial work. Sustained and grounded in the Truth of His perfect love, He mercifully makes us ready for everything—the easy, fun, effectual smooth days, also the scary, sad and painfully difficult chunks of life. God’s purposes are always functioning. He is in control of everything.

If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. 1 Peter 4:14

The Holy Spirit keeps us trusting until we arrive in The Promised Comfort of Heaven. Sharing the Good News isn’t appropriately done under compulsion, manipulatively or domineering to coerce others. Acting like a jerk, pretentiously proud and powerful, isn’t helpful. By grace, we care for and protect people by telling the Truth of the Word of God—the sufferings of Christ for us. Everyone’s better-off by concentrating on examples of Jesus’s style of engaging with people to bring them God. He gathered with people of many backgrounds, conversed kindly using gentle encouragement as a way of interacting with sinners who were humbled by Him. Immitating Christ, by faith, we’re empowered to remind people they’re cherished by our Heavenly Father who loved us with His life.

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 5:6-11

James Bible Sketches

What do you ask for?

What do you lack?

Which comes first, talk or hearing?

Do you ever wonder how to hear what God has to say? Certain Bible apps, studies/services at church, Christian radio streaming, podcasts, videos and websites are available. Peace comes in faith, by prioritizing and establishing regularity to hear what Jesus has done for us and all the reasons why it’s important. If we tune out God’s Word, we lack the Source of Life. Utilizing the Word’s guidance in relating to each other leads us to strive to—not react poorly—in patience, respond kindly. Everyone in our world, potentially, may be weak, vulnerable, proud or pushy. Truth in Christ flows compassionately, no matter what we’re going through or have previously experienced. God wants us to ask Him for the wisdom we need at all times.

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. … Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. James 1:5-6,17

James 1:19-20

Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. James 1:19-20
Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. James 1:19-20

Doing what’s right is to meekly see we’ve failed to do what’s right.

What opportunities are lost when we’re quick to speak before listening, thinking and praying? Having closed ears to another’s story or ideas cuts off meaningful communication. Harsh, unhelpful negativity would turn people away from Truth.

So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire! … no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. … Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. James 3:5,8-9,13-18
The spirit of repentance is received by the faith the Holy Spirit supplies. Christ blesses with forgiveness, comfort and courage. The faith of a person who gets into the Word of God is living and active. Faith’s seed produces all types of fruits that help and care for people. Good actions don’t make people right with God, Jesus does. Although true faith in Christ is invisible, it shows up in the healthy activities of life.

James 4:6

But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” James 4:6

True or false?

Although we don’t always see it, God knows the full extent of what’s at war with the faith. The present darkness of the world and our sinful passions stir up the kind of deceptive trouble that destroys souls. Human nature is so off that it could even go as far as to claim to use the faith as an excuse for bad behaviors such as tyrannizing or manipulating others out of arrogance and blame-shifting to avoid repentance. Sin shows up, big time, as mismanaged priorities. Rude talk as well as pick-and-choose Scripture out-of-context to serve selfish desires abuses God’s good commands. Engaging in quarrels is a waste of time that creates distressing chaos and distracts from the joy of life.

Truth encourages us to take an honest look inside ourselves, resist the devil by acknowledging what is sin—not to revel in it, but mourn it—then, humbly receive God’s mercy and grace with gratitude. Jesus provides the calm peace to those who ask Him for wisdom.

Let God lift you up.

Do you set daily reminders? Why not establish a routine Bible and prayer time to thank God for what He has done in Christ. In the faith, we’re free to personally and along with others in congregation, confess sin and ask the Lord for forgiveness. The Lord hears prayer requests for motivation to stay turned toward Him as well as inspiration to effectively help and offer grace to others. All the spiritual gifts are ours by showing up to participate at places, with other sinners who are praying and growing, where Jesus offers Himself, perfectly, in order to perfect worshipers by forgiving and strengthening us to move forward with a grateful heart. During good times and each difficulty—even in the toughest of situations that we don’t understand—blessings of Jesus are working on our virtues, also, on the character of others.

When our ungrateful wayward mind/voice/action wanders where we know it shouldn’t go, utilizing the power given to us in prayer, our goal is to intentionally stop heading down that path. When we turn toward God in mindful prayer, we know He walks us where we need to be. We trust He spiritually carries and protects us. Habitual prayers request things like discernment, forgiveness, strength, unity and opportunities. It’s good to know our compassionate Lord desires to hear concerns and desires. The Holy Spirit moves us to pray for excellent things such as humility of faith, that He would remove our wanting what’s wrong, faulty thinking, greedy ambition, grudges and resentment. Apologetic and prayers for direction can continuously be flowing. Faith keeps us wanting to remember others in prayer: family, friends, congregation, church, education and community. We may ask for courage to let the joy of the faith in Jesus, bubble up and overflow onto those around us. We can pray for insight on how to comfort (and be comforted), encourage (and be encouraged), uplift (and be uplifted). All of us are sinners whom the Holy Spirit has power to move to take positive action. Especially regarding those who’ve wandered away from the truth, we ask for inspiration to participate in ways which would call them back so that sharing the Gospel leaves all grumbling, complaining and concerns at the foot of the cross and the empty grave of Jesus who is pure, peaceable, gentle, open to reason in light of grace and mercy.

Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains. You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. Do not grumble against one another, brothers, so that you may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing at the door. As an example of suffering and patience, brothers, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful. James 5:7-11

Farmers are patient in certain aspects they manage as it relates to the business of crop production while weather, machinery glitches and market conditions aren’t theirs to control. Even though we aren’t responsible to control everything, we may pray for ourselves and one another. Our unreliable, irresponsible, cold, unkind, self-righteous, partial, sour attitudes may be turned toward the Light for forgiveness and patience. Energy of the Gospel produces good fruit that doesn’t push people around or away, but serves their souls hope and nourishment for growth.

Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. James 5:13-15

James 5:16

Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. James 5:16
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. James 5:16

In Christ we’re firm in purpose, striving to be honest, affectionate, merciful and patient.

In this world, though we expect trouble, there’s wonderful opportunity to abide in the One who is perfect. We can pray over all the strains of suffering. Calling the pastor and friends in the Church for prayers isn’t putting attention on ourselves as much as putting ourselves in God’s hands and trusting Him and His people. Whatever the Good Lord decides, is what is best for those who love Him—ourselves and those in our circles whom suffering affects. Asking others to pray for us points them toward Christ and reminds them of the privilege to talk to God. Sharing needs and prayers allows the Light to shine in dark corners.

Focus on what we have been given.

Contentment and joy are rewards of the faith’s certainty. Jesus is the one and only judge. He lovingly hears prayers spoken in the faith. He mercifully cares for all people. His perfection through suffering completely erases he debt of sin we owe. He’s redeemed me and others who believe. Receiving His gracious gifts empower us to trust Him completely. Absolutely nothing we do adds to His work for us which absolves us from the responsibility of sin and it’s consequences. Our Creator Jesus is always working within us to perfect our faith, making us mindful of the excellent big picture He’s preparing for us. Abiding in Truth—acknowledging that when He returns, His power will destroy all that He declares is evil—believers are provided ability, through His Word, to be heard in prayer and trust His beautiful plan. Delighted to hear the Gospel spoken, we strive to live in the Light’s peace which surpasses understanding. The Father designed us to be Christ’s own subjects, by the Holy Spirit’s faith, held safely forgiven in the Masterpiece. He colorfully draws us into Himself as a perfected mix in Christ’s glorious humility. We’re a creative work-in-progress yet to be revealed. Compassionately, God will fully unite those throughout the ages who fear, love and trust Him. We’ll be together with Jesus—having tears wiped away for eternity. As He promised, because we are in Christ, we, too, shall never see death.

Hebrews Bible Sketches

What’s an ideal gift exchange?

Have you taken turns to draw names from a hat?

Did you keep a Christmas gift secret?

Six children drew names for an exciting gift exchange that took place in our home after the Christmas Eve church program each year. We took special time to memorize a Bible verse and songs that would be performed. Gifts waited for us under the tree. As the family extended and grew over time, emphasis on honoring Christ continued. The birth of our Savior who brings everlasting hope to the world is what we want to pass on for every generation, everywhere, to celebrate! The faith is a vital necessity for life. I draw pictures and write about it to let you know how important Jesus is to me. He wants you to have heaven, too.

Imagine you’ve received a gift which could never be depleted, though it could be refused. Would you:

  • keep or return it?
  • enjoy or ignore it?
  • hide or share it?

Do you want a taste of Heaven here and now?

Perhaps you’ve received the gift of faith in Holy Baptism. If not,

  • are you wondering how, why and what is faith?
  • do you realize faith gives ability to see, hear, touch and speak with God?
  • have you heard faith reveals the very essence of who our Creator is?
  • are you interested in receiving the comfort faith in Jesus brings?
  • are you curious about the other side of death’s portal?

God’s loving gift of faith and eternity is free for all people.

In Hebrews, Jesus is described as the Mediator, the center between the God the Father and us. Eventually, He’ll be back to complete every promise made in The Word. For a while, the Father is patiently wanting all people to trust the Son of God was born as son of man to suffer, die, be buried, rise from the grave and ascend to heaven where he prepares a place for us to live forever with Him. The faith is powered by Scripture and driven by the Holy Spirit who turns us toward Jesus who suffered when tempted, yet did not sin. He became the sacrifice that cleanses us from sin and is able to help us when we are tempted. We fail—He never does. Mercy and forgiveness is in believing He’s redeemed us from sin, the power of the devil, death and hell. Pure, peaceful paradise is restored in the victory of Christ who’s love undoes what happened because of sin.

For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering. For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers, saying, “I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise.” And again, “I will put my trust in him.” And again, “Behold, I and the children God has given me. Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham. Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.” Hebrews 2:10-18

Hebrews 4:16

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16
Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16 ESV

Access to The Father in heaven is made available through His Supreme Son Jesus.

We’re born in sin, so it’s by grace we receive the cleansing faith as a gift; it’s not a decision or earned. The Holy Spirit creates the faith in us and gives growth. The Word shows our need to consistently pray for forgiveness of our junk. The faith always receives Jesus’s constant mercy and peace. The junk-for-mercy exchange means that by faith, we’re not getting what we deserve for wrongs we do and good we lack; instead, we please God and our talents are acceptable to Him! Mercy also covers impure thoughts, transforms them into a clean conscience, and even cleanses impurity we’re unaware of. Trading death and punishment for an undeserved reward of a blissful everlasting life, doesn’t make sense in human terms. Truth is clarified by the faith received in Holy Baptism to believe God’s consoling Word. We do pray for those who hurt us, yet on our part, retaliation is unnecessary. We take our needs to the Lord who is in control, handling everything by grace for now. Eventually, when the Father runs out of patience or the time is right for Jesus to return, all will see His full glory and evil will be destroyed forever.

But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified. Hebrews 10:12-14

Hebrews 10:17

He concludes, I’ll forever wipe the slate clean of their sins. Hebrews 10:17 MSG
He concludes, I’ll forever wipe the slate clean of their sins. Hebrews 10:17 MSG

The blood of Jesus cleanses us and fill us with confidence to come to God with boldness.

Even before sin entered the world, God knew us intimately and planned for the dirt of sin to be removed by blood and gave up His Own for us.

Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Hebrews 10:19-25

It is finished. Our debt for sin is canceled and no longer a factor between us and God. Trusting God’s love is ours, we’re free to forgive each other and worship together. God wants all to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. He patiently waits to return because He wants more people to receive the Gospel. He would rather save than destroy.

Warning: do not shrink back from the faith.

We can’t generate anything good in the sight of God without the faith He provides. Whoever neglects the good gifts of Jesus in deliberate contempt for the Gospel, insults the Spirit of Grace. If the blood isn’t a blessing, it’s a curse. God destroys the one who’s been given the faith, yet chooses to leave it and separate himself/herself from the Son of God. Wrath falls on any opposition that would keep us apart from the love of His Son. God brings vengeance on those who reject His Son. He makes this judgement which is a fearful thing. As believers, we remind ourselves we are sinful and can never earn perfection on this earth; we need God’s mercy. There’s no forgiveness for unbelievers.

But recall the former days when, after you were enlightened, you endured a hard struggle with sufferings, sometimes being publicly exposed to reproach and affliction, and sometimes being partners with those so treated. For you had compassion on those in prison, and you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property, since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one. Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised. For, “Yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay; but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back,
my soul has no pleasure in him.” But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls. Hebrews 10:32-39

Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1 ESV

The faith given for us is certain of salvation.

In this world, the Devil is kept on a leash while he wants to steal our joy. He tempts us to

  • ignore desires and needs of other people
  • selfishly look at ourselves, others, or things as gods
  • reject and let go of the true faith so to end up joining him in hell

By promises of God, the substance and power of the Holy Spirit’s gift of faith are for us to lean into and lead us forward through the shadows. Assured Jesus is coming again, we pay close attention to what we’ve heard—not drifting away or neglecting opportunities. Free to worship at a place where we hear exactly what Jesus is saying, we, also, may taste what he supplies for us. Jesus, the founder and perfecter of faith has a lot to say about saving us from hell while He lovingly prepares a place for us in heaven. Do you ever wonder, “How can I be right with God? Is there something I must do?”

And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. Hebrews 11:6

Daily renewal of the Holy Spirit works exactly as the Mediator calls us to keep calm and carry on with the good we do for others. The faith’s gift of repentance keeps us turned toward Jesus. In Christ, we need not worry about our own doing to be saved. The resurrected and ascended Christ has done it all. He is the good Lord who saves. He finished the essential work for us!

Hebrews 13:17

Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you. Hebrews 13:17
Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you. Hebrews 13:17 ESV

We can’t see into each other’s hearts.

It’s always an excellent idea to pray for and encourage each other. Every single one of us sins, yet Christian joy can’t be wrecked. The beautiful privilege our pastors and all members of the Church have is to repentantly go before the throne of grace—directly to Jesus with all our questions, troubles, needs, regrets and sorrows! Being equipped in God’s will, by faith, to please Him is a huge benefit. Prayer—for self, those who are easy to love, and all people who aren’t—is priority. As though you were in their shoes, remember prisoners; also, those who are mistreated and their property taken from them. By faith, we’re free to ask people to pray and receive all kinds of encouragement believers wish to offer. Helping each other, without making anyone feel bad or weak, is God’s will for us to give and receive the very Light of Christ. We can’t earn salvation or become perfect, yet by faith we can share the Truth of Jesus who paid the penalty for our sin.

Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Hebrews 13:2

Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:5-6

Usually we are thinking we know exactly how things will go; yet, sometimes we’re proven wrong. God’s purpose for us and those in our lives is higher than any plan we can dream up. God is our faithful refuge. He protects, supplies every need and we can count on His promises. Unlimited access to pray is like a warm blanket and a soft, quiet place to rest. Embraced by arms that were spread wide on the cross, we’re dearly held by scarred hands of the only One who compassionately sees within each and every heart. Faith hopes and functions confidently in communion with the Risen Christ’s life and sacrificial love for everyone.

Sometimes it’s lonely in the shadows of this temporary worldly life. By faith, Jesus walks us all the way to our future home in heaven. Trusting, we encourage one another to, also, rest in His peace.

Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience, desiring to act honorably in all things. I urge you the more earnestly to do this in order that I may be restored to you the sooner. Hebrews 13:18-19

The Holy Spirit brings belief for us.

The Word of God spoke all of creation into existence; then, for the joy before Him, uncomplaining, offered Himself to be shamed and murdered to earn our salvation for us. As baptized believers, we are His brothers and sisters made holy. Our Father in Heaven sees us through Jesus. With no human strength, reason or opinion added or taken away from the pure Word—Jesus is the final authority on everything. God strengthens and sustains us with the very body and blood of Christ. Our Substitute is always praying for us, providing grace for life now and everlasting.

God’s promised plan will be ultimately revealed when He returns to separate us from His enemies—those who reject Him. Thankfully, our Savior heals us as we focus forward. He’ll raise our bodies from the dead—wipe out every evil, pain, sorrow and tear—keep and bless us forever. We’re privileged to encourage and share the Gospel of His loving faithfulness given for us. Jesus is for everyone. He is also for you. Beyond what is humanly reasonable, all glory belonging to God is ours by His faithfulness to us!

knowing weakness, tears, and pain,
who, like us, was tried and tempted,
unlike us, without a stain—
since he shared our lowly place,
let us boldly seek his grace!

such a great high priest we have,
strong to help, supreme to save!

Philemon Bible Sketch

Weary of spinning wheels?

How do you refresh?

Do you call for help, shutdown, restart?

We need courage to ask for help and direction. Vulnerability, time and financial cost may be factors. Greed, indifference, conceit, pride, fear of not liking another opinion—whatever the reason—unwillingness to take advice may stem from stubborn insistence of being right which trumps everything. The unheard one may be labeled troublemaker, uneducated or worthless and should be ignored, scoffed, bawled out or shunned. These harsh examples and others more subtle, are summed up in one word: sin. Undesirable thoughts, words and deeds show up in ugly ways at inopportune times and cause damaging cycles which are hard to break.

Whether the task is learning a new tech device or trying to handle a personal issue, repeating the same unsuccessful action isn’t changing a thing. Perhaps blame is projected elsewhere, unaware of our own part in the problem. Discovering what’s wrong and working toward the remedy to resolve it may not happen. Things (and people) sometimes break down or wear out and die, never realizing. Failures remind us to pause the dream and face reality. By faith, we may pray.

Help, Lord! I realize I don’t know what I’m doing. Forgive my impatient, resentful thoughts … and all of my faults which I’m unaware. I’m grateful Your comforting love goes before me and all people in this confusing and frustrating world. I pray, Holy Spirit, draw me near, mediate, bless me with wisdom, discernment and lead me where and how you want me. I trust You are right here with me now and always. Thank you for centering me among brothers and sisters in Christ. Amen.

Curiosity inspires research online, browsing forums or initiating a chat. We can ask a librarian, friend, pastor, whoever is beside us in Bible study class, or a total stranger at the gas station. Oddly, there’s comfort in discovery that others wonder the same or similar thing. We’re grateful for people who admit they’re not sure what to say and those who share wisdom—they’re more helpful than they realize. Frustrating are those whose efforts (or lack of) cause more trouble than support. All people, loved by God, fall on both sides of the fence as we wander through life. By grace, we’re privileged to keep at moving forward—to pray for each other and ourselves.

When the idea of interrupting someone with my problem was all it took for a bell to ring, ding-ding—a light bulb moment—or when a conclusion surprisingly surfaces before the person I asked even begins to think, I’m reminded the Lord is in control, thankfully. Feel-good cooperation is real. Inquiries desire the satisfaction of respect and create opportunities. Assistance isn’t an inconvenience, rather, to be asked to share knowledge, wisdom and experience can be taken as a compliment. The day is brightened by working together in a positive way. Appreciation for the other’s enthusiasm and gratitude of a creative idea, quick-fix or honest helpful tip is welcome. Perhaps the question may even help the other gain new perspectives on their own issues.

The limited mind’s ideal result isn’t instant or guaranteed. Could it be that

  • having confidence that an answer exists—a solution which doesn’t depend on me
  • willingness to voice my concern with eagerness to listen, learn, put into practice
  • allowing another (Jesus or one of His messengers) to step-in

is the mix of thoughts and actions which make the faith God gave me effective? I probably won’t discover why things happen the way they do; nor do I need to know the great mysteries of what’s going on behind the scene of every situation. All I really need to cling to is that God the Father who knows all, planned before the ages began, to send His Son Jesus to

  • be lowered to our level, becoming a man birthed by a virgin woman
  • teach forgetful people who resist learning to live repentantly
  • remain innocently victorious over the tempter
  • be abandoned into the hands of evil people who torture and nail him to a cross
  • finish the redemptive work
  • rise from the grave
  • ascend to heaven
  • guarantee a solution for all who believe

Perhaps by now, everyone’s had access to our loving Creator’s work by availability of gifts from our gracious risen Christ who makes salvation certain. Faith given by the Holy Spirit in Baptism and the Word of God receives reconciliation with the Father in heaven and enjoys communion within the believing community.

Philemon 6

and I pray that the sharing of your faith may become effective for the full knowledge of every good thing that is in us for the sake of Christ. Philemon 1:6
and I pray that the sharing of your faith may become effective for the full knowledge of every good thing that is in us for the sake of Christ. Philemon 6

You, who are loved by God, know Jesus has promised to see you through this.

Scripture claims we should expect hard times. Anyone might end up on the receiving end or in the middle of spiritual battles. Bullish dysfunctional negative energy horribly kills trust between people and makes enemies. Distressing struggles emerge in destructive activities, uncontrollable complaining and disturbingly strange silence. Satan’s lies, topped-off with unhealthy temptations, dangerously affect all involved. Jealousy, anger, fear, discontent, entitlement or other characteristics of human nature probably motivate habitual fits and other toxic behaviors which drag others along down into the deep, dark places of self-isolation.

Just as Jesus needed prayerful rest, so do we. He prays for those who mocked, tortured and killed Him, and so can we. When we reach a point of exhaustion, Christ’s prayers, mercy, grace and love for us continues. The world as we know it is not our final home. Our worry, guilt, sorrow and wounds fall onto Jesus who innocent and uncomplaining became our Substitute at the cross. Out of love, He rescued us from the punishment we deserve, intercedes with the Father for us and sent the Counselor to train us in Scripture, constantly guiding us how to live by grace in peace among those who annoy and hurt us.

Personally seeking help and trying to care for others is good. Realization of the serious need for spiritual and professional care may come, yet in this lifetime, such counseling isn’t always effective. That doesn’t stop God’s love, though. Jesus lifts the weight. When burdens are heavy, Christ’s grace for all involved stands sure. Prayerfully, we allow the Lord to carry us through intense and sad situations. He turns everything into good purposes as He sees fit. In repentant living, there’s forgiveness for failures. Salvation doesn’t rely upon our successes; it all depends on the work of Jesus who never fails. Remembering our loving God’s ways are higher than ours, we pray that the Holy Spirit would work through cravings, deflate desire to control, and pump up the faith in everyone.

We don’t deserve forgiveness, yet are free by the passion of Jesus to forgive one another, blessed to confess our own personal failures and receive grace. Since Christ’s wounds paid for all wrongs, His power heals wounds each time we stumble, stray and suffer. Jesus refreshes us as the Holy Spirit diverts focus away from obsessing over ourselves and the distressful things in life that aren’t ours to fix.

Remembering we’re cleansed by the water of Baptism, its forgiveness creates a cheerful outlook—praise the Lord! By the faith our Creator renews in hearts, Christ’s body and blood given for us in the bread and wine strengthens our hope. We joyfully celebrate the counsel of the Holy Spirit who assures us all things work together for good.

Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8
Every good fruit of the Spirit within us is a gift of Christ meant to polish what is tarnished and build each other up. Thank the Lord for hurt-healing blessings. Positioned to mingle with generously compassionate, meek people who fully trust the Lord, together we beam the energetic Light of Christ, share genuine love, cherish honesty, speedily forgive, optimistically encourage each other as we continually learn and strive to grow into spiritual maturity.

How is it possible to best handle sticky situations?

Realize God doesn’t operate by standard of human expectations, nor does he lord-over and force us to receive His love and blessings.

By the power God, we confess the faith in Christ. [Please, ask about the faith if you haven’t yet received it.] Repentance receives coverage in God’s love for us. At the cross and empty grave, our Redeemer took the win over the devil, the world and sin. Depending on Christ’s rescue, defense and protection, we prepare for each meal we receive at The Lord’s Table where we hear His Word, “Given and shed for you for the forgiveness of sins” which strengthens us every time.

Genuinely effective conversation raises difficult issues kindly, with gentle, patient expectation and warm freedom of the Gospel. Coerced, cold interaction keeps situations icy. Context of a small group safe environment can be helpful, beneficial and useful. Carefully, thoughtfully, in consideration of each other’s points and emotions, welcoming open honesty is about learning what’s on minds and in hearts of each other. If possible, it’s good to get together in-person, taking time during the exchange to read faces and listen well. Effective communication is a lifelong process.

Ineffective conversations, offensive texts, one-time, one-way upsetting talk at the end of the day, just before you want to shut down for rest, aren’t helpful. Lacking empathy is unloving; it causes lingering confusion that questions sincerity and motive. We cover more ground when we take time to discuss and apologize for specifics, than over-generalizing. Sorrow based on being caught rather than the actual wrongs done, as well as vague brevity about complex problems, suggest hidden issues exist. Being hardened, stubborn, or blind to the damage we cause keeps relationships functioning in superficially dull mode. When prescribed, an obligatory apology under compulsion—hesitantly, reluctantly insincerely given—holds onto lies stuffed into a grudge.

If you ask someone if they forgive you and they say yes—thankfully receive what is said. Pray the Holy Spirit would open your (and the other’s) eyes, ears, mind, and heart for discernment. Certainly, God allows difficulties to accomplish His will for everyone. Wait, refresh, reboot, repeat—comforted that as brothers and sisters in Christ, we’re reconciled to God. No one’s born an expert at relationships. Throughout life’s experiences, God causes growth in Christ. As each of us learn valuable lessons, we exchange in the family of Church—not forcing, but appealing to people in the Gospel.

Accordingly, though I am bold enough in Christ to command you to do what is required, yet for love’s sake I prefer to appeal to you— Philemon 8

Everyone gets mentally, emotionally, bodily and spiritually weary.

Redeemed in Jesus, we patiently long to mend brokenness, animosity, hard feelings and nervous tension. Christ forgives us; so qualities of the faith include spontaneously forgiving others quickly, by grace which provides healing, love, good feelings and confidence to trust one another for uplifting experiences.

Yes, brother, I want some benefit from you in the Lord. Refresh my heart in Christ. Philemon 20

There’s no isolation in the giving and receiving God’s compassionate goodness. Grace makes space in places of rest, relaxation, positive energy and affirmation. Tis So Sweet to trust and remember What a Friend we Have in Jesus. He walks us into opportunities to communicate with experienced Christians who are full to overflowing in rich goodness of the Word of God. With freedom to find a church nearby, we can connect with people where there’s always more to be opened for us. All people need to continuously hear about Jesus who became sin to provide mercy for us. Repentant, supportive, and prayers of gratitude are lifted in the Church.

The process of God is always working. When we share His forgiving truth, His power changes us to grow in the knowledge of His Word. The Holy Spirit prompts activity of His design for us to function effectively well. Salvation is not on us, Jesus prays for us when we don’t know what to pray. Christ is the only and final answer for every good thing occurring right now. Baptism frees us to live as a new creation in Him. Heaven is open to all believers in His promise. Risen Jesus will return in person with full authority to gather together believers to enjoy peace forever, at the very instant of eternity when evil, sin, tears of pain and death will be completely wiped away!

Titus Bible Sketches

Is infinity imaginable?

How about immeasurable or inexhaustible?

It takes faith to look forward to everlasting eternal life.

Before the beginning, God promised perfection in an unending life! No lie. God’s plan is to save us according to His mercy.

Titus 1:2

in hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began Titus 1:2
in hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began Titus 1:2

The devil messes with us in this world.

The goal of Satan and his minions is to attack the faith. The devil will impose whatever devious tricks he can, motived to distract us from Scripture and lead us astray so far as to forget or discard the faith. People who reject the Holy Spirit’s gifts by their own choice, separate themselves from God’s grace. Without mincing words, they’ll spend eternity in hell.

Here are a few samples of lies which tempt us to embrace what could end up dividing us from God’s grace.

  • By nature, humankind struggles by making and elevating our own lower-case-gods (self, other people, things, activities) to a higher position than worshiping our Creator.
  • Stumbling in dangerous, dark areas of sin, we’re capable to give in to inconsiderate malice, envy, judgement and hatred.
  • Muddling through a broken world, even though God’s good commands are written on our hearts, no one does all perfectly. What’s worse is refusal to admit wrongs, and instead, openly continue to purposely repeat the same sins without regret.
  • In false belief that God’s love must be earned, what outwardly appears to be good words and deeds, actually inwardly come from impure hearts and selfish motivation. God doesn’t need good works to supply salvation, nor does He notice anything done with a heart that lacks the faith in Christ.
  • Some who say they know God, actually deny Him by adding rules which trouble families, implying that the finished work of Jesus is not enough.
  • Some pick-and-choose Scripture they like and discard parts they don’t want.

Prayerfully let it go. God is in control.

If a self-righteous person refuses to cease and desist to stir up division after two warnings, those who are united in the true faith are advised by God’s Word to avoid warped distracting controversies about the law, so not to get bogged down by worthless quarreling regarding rigid attacks on the Gospel.

Titus 3:5

he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, Titus 3:5
he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, Titus 3:5

Jesus crushed the evil one.

Jesus suffered and bore sin, guilt and shame of all people, past/present/future. Our Father delights in all who are united as His children by the faith, through His Son’s sacrificial death and being risen to save us. Consoled in Christ’s care, On the Sufficiency of Scripture, the faith brings

  • repentant living
  • rescue from penalty
  • healing from the effects of sin
  • growing readiness for life
  • present joy
  • eternal blessings of certain hope in a new life

Credit belongs to our Creator for giving us freedom to focus on doing what’s good and acceptable.

The faith guards us from those who insinuate doubt about the promises of God whose own Son empowers us with His mercy, grace and counsel. Our Savior brought goodness and loving kindness for us at the lowly birth of Jesus who was swaddled in a manger in Bethlehem. Before we were born, God planned work for us to do. The gift of faith equips us to hold onto the Truth as we devote ourselves to take up His opportunities for us to do good and treat everyone with dignity. When, by the faith, we gladly hear, read and learn God’s Word, He opens eyes to see Light shining grace for us. Christ, who has authority to judge, not only forgives those who fear Him, He also

  • supplies confidence to fight natural rebellion
  • encourages honesty
  • makes gratitude meaningful
  • serves us Himself in the bread and wine of Divine Worship
  • provides zeal for carrying out what is healthy and helpful to others
  • motivates respectful, gentle and courteous behavior toward all people
  • creates joy which lifts the spirit
  • establishes patience through suffering
  • sustains the weary with rest and strength for each day
  • assures proper trust

Jesus loves you and wants to connect with you.

By the treasure of water included in God’s command to wash in/with the Word (the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit), Holy Baptism does what Jesus says it does. By the one true faith, Christ serves us forgiveness in the sight of our Father in heaven. We were conceived in sin and born sinful. The solution to our sin is God’s rich grace in Christ for us and for our children. This new birth of God is a gift to be received once for all its benefits of His salvation for us. As an adopted child of God in Baptism, we become an heir of eternal life. It’s not my promise to God; it’s His promise to me by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit. God’s mercy is for each of us who practice freedom in our baptized holy life of faith in Christ Jesus who paid the same price for all people. Joy for each new day comes in remembering Baptism’s continuous on-going effects are for us who are covered in His grace!

We are blessed.

Nine months before Christmas, I’m posting this on a day observed in my church body as the time when the angel Gabriel visited the blessed Virgin Mary to announce that the eternal Son of God would take up human flesh in her womb!

Praying in the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit—One God with us now, always, and in the end will make all things new:

“I praise You, O God, for giving me grace and peace in Christ Jesus my Savior! Make me a sincere and faithful child in the communion of saints. • Jesus, purify me with Your righteousness so that I may lead my family and serve faithfully among your people. •  Jesus, adorn my life with works and confession worthy of the Gospel. • O God, Your Word and Sacraments sustain, guide, and nurture me in the one true faith. Guard me against all error. • Entrust me, dear Lord, with the opportunity to tell another person of Your redeeming love. Amen.” —from notes on Titus, The Lutheran Study Bible

Wait, there’s more! :)

2 Timothy Bible Sketches

Are you afraid?

Have you received the Spirit?

Where does power come from?

Love cares, comforts, protects, provides and is there for us; yet it’s not coercive and doesn’t hold us from walking away. In freedom, we may think and act as we wish. God’s love is the source of reconciliation when we wander or cut ourselves off.

2 Timothy 1:7

for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7
for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7

God gave us a spirit of love in Holy Baptism which unites us with Jesus. Self-control is provided so we don’t deny God’s power, but rather worship Him. The unchanging Word identifies right from wrong and explains how we’re redeemed from punishment we deserve. Our burdens are lifted and fears are removed by the gift of faith in Christ.

Some, misguided by various mythsthat we’re born innocent, a personal decision is required for baptism, or by trying hard enough we can perfect our behavior—are probably left wondering if they’ve done enough.

Actually, all people were conceived and born in sin. We’re naturally selfish and can’t free ourselves from entanglement in many ways we fail, related to various types of sin which we might stray into. Chronic abuse takes power and control by distorted entitlement or domineering thoughts and actions. Vows are thoughtlessly broken. Rules which have been set in place for our own good are carelessly ignored. Just one example, the commandment you shall not murder not only means that we shouldn’t hurt or harm another, but also, we should fear and love God so we offer help and support to them in every physical need. We may fail to give of our time as we should. By rejecting help or asserting a closed-ears and hard-heart position, we cancel relationships and isolate ourselves. The unrelenting harsh tone of excessive inconsiderate words hurts people; so does neglecting to say kind things, express thanks, offer assistance, prayer, or comfort. Holding grudges, simmering resentment and unhealthy thoughts are only a few ways which prove how broken we really are. All humankind has inherited sin.

2 Timothy 1:9

who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, 2 Timothy 1:9
who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, 2 Timothy 1:9

Christ strengthens us when we repetitively receive healthy doses of God’s glory.

Our Good Lord’s merciful gifts of correction and repentance for us come by the faith God grants for forgiveness of sin. Learning about gentleness is among many blessings from our compassionate Creator. Truth is gained by Spirit-guided focus into the full context of the Bible. The author of faith and life reveals Himself as our specific path to perfect love, self-control and forgiveness. God lowered Himself to be born as Son of Man. Jesus literally sweat blood, died, rose from the grave and ascended to heaven to complete for us the rescue we need to be prepared for Resurrection Day. Believing we are forgiven in Christ, we live in God’s peace and joy, knowing that eventually we’ll outlive death when we’re raised up to praise Him forever in paradise where tears are completely wiped away and there will be no more sin.

2 Timothy 3:1-7

But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth. 2 Timothy 3:1-7

Jesus’s wounds and sufferings are our sins.

God doesn’t need our good works; yet we definitely need His finished work. Sinners, just like us, violently crucified Jesus at the cross, yet God’s Word assures that He rose and endures forever. Through Baptism we are made one with Christ—unified into His death and resurrection for us. The Holy Spirit, by grace,

  • pours forgiveness upon us
  • enables belief which trusts Christ’s mercy
  • shields the believer who is caught in the line of fire
  • outwits the tempter’s false claim that we fully (or partially) could rely on ourselves for salvation
  • lovingly covers the baptized with certain hope of a heavenly future

Christ’s body and blood, in/with/under bread and wine served at the Lord’s Table, strengthens and forgives. Our faithful Heavenly Father provides a Church family of believing friends and relatives to

  • pray for each other
  • shine the Light of Christ in our darkest places so to build each other up
  • express Truth we confess together
  • remind one another of our Savior’s love for us

Jesus became sin to give us victory over sin, completing us by the faith The Holy Spirit supplies us for cleansing, rescue and wisdom in hearing. No matter what physical/mental/emotional brokenness and difficulty arises, all who are baptized and receive the Word of God are patiently and sufficiently

  • covered by grace, forgiven of unhealthy/insufficient thoughts, words and actions
  • equipped to thank and praise God; to pray for, encourage, share the Light by telling others of God’s finished work and healthy purpose in Jesus to satisfy all people with hope and a future
At times we may have to endure very bad days; without a doubt, death. Mindfully, we can reflect on the cross our Lord endured for the whole world—a sacrifice which we can never make. Counsel exists within the pure Gospel for us to live along side others during these end times while we’re faced with opposition in a world that’s not yet our final home. Thankfully, we’re motivated by the Spirit with an eagerness to do work He’s prepared for us before we were born. Only in Him can we be kind and gentle toward everyone.

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

More on Paul’s Second Letter to Timothy

Prayer of the Day • Lord God heavenly Father, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, Your servant Moses proclaimed the resurrection to the children of Israel to give them hope in the midst of their darkness. As we journey to the darkness of the cross, give us hope to look beyond it to the light of the resurrection; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord. (1006) Treasury of Daily Prayer
