Since the fall in the garden, God’s love covers sin like perfectly fitting gloves.

Everyone needs go-to guidance, glorious protection and gentle warmth in this cold, dark world where we don’t always get it, give it or see it right. To find the Way by ourselves—getting through highs, lows, twists, turns, traps, distress, complicated confusing detours and natural disasters—is impossible guesswork. Confident hope is for us in looking to the Light—the single source of pure love and refuge. Because we can’t come to the Father by any other way, He generously gives His Word for us. God graciously invites us to to be His guest in His House, where the Holy Spirit gives us the faith which focuses on the side of eternity that goes with Jesus our Creator, Savior, Redeemer and Friend. Jesus was born to live among us and teach us to pray for wisdom so that we may let go of arrogance in order to receive the greatest gift ever given. He suffered, died and rose from the dead on the third day for us because we can’t reach perfect humility without His work. Now, we may seek the Lord’s encouragement, forgiveness, comfort, refreshing joy and strength for each new day. Taking responsibility, we reflect the Light by sharing kindness, mercy and grace. In Christ, is peace and quietness only Jesus gives, knowing one day we’ll connect in person when He comes again on the final Resurrection Day. He’ll wipe away every tear and gather believers through the narrow gate toward an everlasting grand getaway of life going on forever with Him; separated far from the other side of eternal miserable gloomy grief with Satan and all unbelieving people who deny Truth.

Nehemiah Bible Sketch

Strength in the joy of the Lord

Don’t be grieved—listen to the Word

Hearing God’s word has great purpose that unites us in Christ locally and eternally with all who trust His promises. The Holy Spirit offers faith that believes, receives joy and craves the strength that comes from the spoken sermon, readings and hymns during church worship services.

Then he said to them, “Go your way. Eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions to anyone who has nothing ready, for this day is holy to our Lord. And do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”
Nehemiah 8:10 ESV Bible verse hand lettering marker sketch.

I’m thankful for people who help me make sense of Scripture and bring it into life by applying it to today’s situations.

The Bible teaches us about ourselves, reveals our sins, humbles, brings us to repentance, and provides zeal to pray for what we need over and over again. God’s plan in supplying His Word is to satisfy us by showing us what we need. Jesus has been grieved in our place at the bloody cross. The joy of the Lord comes to us in the Sacrament of Holy Baptism and the Sacrament of the Altar. These gifts provide strength to forgive others as whoever believes these words has exactly what they say: “forgiveness of sins.”

Nehemiah means the Lord has comforted.

Our Father Creator hears our prayers in Jesus Name and answers according to His will. When we pray “thy will be done,” He works in us so that the things we want are the things he desires to give us—contentment and peace. He has not forgotten His promises which hold true because of the resurrection of Jesus. He is risen! Think of the angel who announced the Good News of Great Joy for you with the birth of Christ!
Dear Lord,
Forgive our apathy regarding matters of faith. Thank you for training us theologically by providing highly educated pastors, friends and family who teach your Word to grow the faith You give in Baptism. Thank you for those who lead us in prayer and encourage us to do the same with and for others. You stir us, bring us to tears, fill us with joy, and give us strength.
Amen.

Joshua Bible Sketch

Peace in times of uncertainty, fear, loneliness, failure, anticipation, change, harshness, shame, blame, harm, suffering, exhaustion, pandemic, and death

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 ESV Bible verse sketchbook hand lettering

God commands us to be strong and courageous and promises to be with us! We receive certain hope as we fear, love and trust Him above all.

  • Freedom that comes from the fear of God (watch)
  • Favorite Bible passage Joshua 1:9 (listen)
  • Thy Strong Word talk on Joshua 1 (listen)

  • Heavenly Father, within your will and timing, we ask for an end to the COVID-19 pandemic; give effective care to those infected or afraid; protect and inspire those providing care, supplies and leadership.
  • Creator, thank you for granting us strength and courage when we are weak and scared.
  • Forgive us when we fall to temptation, when our vast flaws and inadaquacies—doubtful, negative thoughts, words and actions—misguide our own and others’ focus away from You.
  • Move us to let go of arrogance, pride, stubbornness and selfishness.
  • Open our ears to listen to, absorb and grow in the Word.
  • Help us pay attention and really hear others well; then, allow us to reflect Your compassion, forgiveness, humility and grace.
  • Remind us that we cannot earn Your forgiveness but You forgive in Christ’s Name.
  • Your ways are above ours—we cannot comprehend your presence, power and knowledge—we are in awe of your great love and mercy!
  • Thank you for sacrificing Your perfect Son Jesus, to suffer, die and victoriously rise to intercede for and save us!
  • We sinners repent. We don’t deserve it, yet, we trust Your atonement and gladly rest in your promises of our resurrection and ultimate reunion with all believers together with You in heaven.
  • Dear Father, Comforter, and Savior—remind us You are in control of life and death. You desire all to receive the faith You give in Your Word. You, alone, are the final judge of our individual hearts through the lens of Christ.
  • Thanks for being with us during these extraordinary times, here and wherever we go (or don’t go).
  • Guide us to patiently trust You, recognize, enjoy, and thankfully share Your grace, peace and gifts this day.

Amen.

Our heavenly Father’s blessings of a beginning

Sending us forward in protection, mercy, grace, atonement and peace in Jesus

The Benediction, “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26 ESV Bible verse hand lettering with sketch of how to make the sign of the cross hand gesture—the oldest symbol of Christianity.

A pastoral blessing

  1. is like the shining of the sun bringing joy and brightness,
  2. gives peace and security in the wake of life’s tragedy and natural disasters,
  3. verbally declares a wishing of God’s wishes,
  4. calls Christians to love and bless others even in the midst of horrifying situations,
  5. reminds us of who we are as God’s children in the midst of chaos and adversity,
  6. includes a hand gesture to visualize the blessing’s effectiveness in God’s peacemaking on the cross
  7. is spoken Word which forgives and strengthens
